Education in Brazil

Education in Brazil Brazil is a beautiful country that has an amazing culture. As any other country in Latin America, the education in Brazil is characterized by having great inequalities. You will find that some of the best Latin American universities are held in Brazil; however, there is still a high illiteracy rate.

The government regulates the education in Brazil; it provides technical assistance as well as financial assistance to Brazilian states and the Municipalities are responsible for the development of their educational system. This is a clear example of a coordinated work between the federal government and the municipalities.

There are public and private sectors in Education: public education is free and compulsory for children between 7 and 14 years old, while private education is not free.
The official educational cycle is:
  • Pre-school, it is not mandatory.
  • Basic education (8 years.)
  • Intermediary education (3 years.)
  • Superior education (4 - 6 years.)
  • Post education (Post graduation courses.)
