The "Olaria de Brennand" is a ceramics factory and exibition hall. The present owner Fransico Brennand studied art in France. Beside the normal work of the factory, he uses it for his artworks and turned the whole area into a big museum or better in one big piece of art. The Brennand Museum, based on the tradition of a family that for generations has produced ceramics and the best of what can be made, Francisco Brennand gave birth to his world among the ruins of the family’s old brick factory. For generations, the Brennand family has traditionally produced ceramics of the finest quality. In 1971, Brennand started creating what is today his studio, factory and a museum of his works. It is considered one of the most important centers for learning the art of ceramics in Brazil. The museum is an old-new world of temples and gardens, imaginary creatures and mystical animals, eggs and guardians – “strange creatures of powerful magic and magnificent shapes, full of wonderful colors of a tropical landscape”.

Fransisco Brennand was born on June 11th, 1927 in Recife, Pernambuco. He won the first prize for paintings at the State of Pernambuco Museum Contest in 1947 and 1948. He traveled extensively through Europe (Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal and Bracelona / Spain). When he returned to Brazil he made a lot of paintings and ceramic art works for which he won the Gabriela Mistral Interamerican Cultural prize in 1993.
