Teatro NacionalTeatro Nacional Claudio Santoro one of the best tourist attractions, stands almost exactly at the intersection of the two axes, near the old bus station. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, has a pyramidal shape and 46 meters high. The façade was decorated by artist Athos Bulcão, who used a composition of cubes and rectangles. The theatrical complex includes three halls: Villa Lobos (1037 seats, recently refurbished), Martins Pena (399) and Alberto Nepomuceno (96). Acoustics, planned by Aldo Caloet, are perfect for large shows. The National Theatre open Mondays through Fridays, from 9.30 a.m. to 12 noon and from 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m..
